Cravenghast by Darryl Caine
Warning: this one is for adults only.
This is a rare gem: a book written and published in Brisbane in 1997, but no longer available anywhere that I can find. I managed to borrow a copy for a read and would love to buy a copy if anyone knows where to find it. It was a great tale about a group of strangers from modern Brisbane who were transported to a strange, medieval-type world inhabited by strange beasts and red-skinned warriors. The Duke of Cravenghast is a ranger lord who protects a vast area of land and comes back to his home periodically. One day he arrives to find a group of Australians have appeared in his home and imprisons them. At first they see him as a barbarian, but as time goes by, he teaches them his language and develops feelings for one of the young ladies. There is plenty of action between the characters and war comes to Cravenghast. This is a great fantasy action adventure and I would recommend it for adults who like fantasy and medieval books.
I borrowed a rare paperback copy of this book.
