This was the first book I was sent to review by Writers' Web. I really enjoyed it too.
It is a time-travel adventure about a 17 year old girl, named Gemma, who accidentally falls through a portal and is transported back in time to medieval Morven. The land Gemma discovers is ancient and is beset by war over land ownership. Gemma meets a Prince and they have an instant attraction before they are torn away from each other by battle. Young Gemma's tenacity and fencing skills come in handy during the dangerous trials ahead of her. I particularly enjoy Cecily's writing style and her depictions of medieval life and would recommend it for youngsters who enjoy action books.
Warning: this one is for adults only.
This is a rare gem: a book written and published in Brisbane in 1997, but no longer available anywhere that I can find. I managed to borrow a copy for a read and would love to buy a copy if anyone knows where to find it. It was a great tale about a group of strangers from modern Brisbane who were transported to a strange, medieval-type world inhabited by strange beasts and red-skinned warriors. The Duke of Cravenghast is a ranger lord who protects a vast area of land and comes back to his home periodically. One day he arrives to find a group of Australians have appeared in his home and imprisons them. At first they see him as a barbarian, but as time goes by, he teaches them his language and develops feelings for one of the young ladies. There is plenty of action between the characters and war comes to Cravenghast. This is a great fantasy action adventure and I would recommend it for adults who like fantasy and medieval books.
