I'm not normally a fantasy reader, but I'm so glad my friend put me onto this title. It's great to read something from a brand new writer who obviously has a brilliant imagination and a clever way with words. This is ideal for readers from about 11 up (depending on your young reader's interests and ability). It's a fairly simple quest narrative, with goodies and baddies that teaches the reader a few lessons about team work, friendship and working towards your goals. The main characters are likeable but I was really taken with their little fairy spirit guides - who go with them everywhere and are always the opposite gender to the character. It seems like a perfect yin/yang balance and got me thinking about the way we all travel life with a little 'angel' and a little 'devil' on our shoulders guiding the way. It's hard for me to compare this to other books in the genre, since I haven't read many, but for me it was an enjoyable read with enough plot twists to hold my interest - while also following the traditional path of a fantasy quest leading to a satisfying conclusion. I look forward to more from this writer!" This Charming Mum. Posted on Amazon.com 31/7/2013.
