I promise there are no spoilers here – just a general review and my thoughts on the book. There is an excerpt below taken from Kasper’s website which will give you more insight into the actual story and writing style.
A group of mixed race folks, brought together in an epic quest to save their princess and their country. A journey across lands, finding ways to bridge gaps between their old grudges and assumptions. A young adult fantasy steeped in adventure and quietly spoken messages.
I really enjoyed this book! There were a couple of editing issues and the pace seemed to vary in strange spots – but I still loved it. There were parts where the author has taken from “real” life, and often this is a little more obvious than I like in my fantasy – but it works. I smiled, cried (yep – I actually cried) and secretly jumped for joy (in my head) in some parts.
There are also some amazing artworks on Kaspers’ Facebook page (see above for link) as part of a competition she held. Check them out, like the page and tell her I sent you
Give it a go! I think even people who don’t typically like the fantasy genre will enjoy this as it isn’t too over the top! I am keen to start reading book 2 ASAP.
