Elven Jewel book reviews

Fantasy in the Grand Tradition . 5 stars
Kasper is a prolific writer of fantasy and a loyal supporter of other writers, so it's a pleasure to read her work here and review it. Her stories are easy to characterize but hard to put in a nutshell: that is, she writes epic fantasy in the best Tolkein tradition, and yet it's not derivative or run-of-the-mill. She excels at wide-eyed narration with beautiful, yet never effusive description, and characters who seem as familiar as your old friends, but much more powerful! I think she bridges the world of adult fantasy and YA fantasy quite well with this story, and it would be a great intro to a younger reader first venturing into the wilds of the fantasy genre. That said, a seasoned reader would appreciate her attention to detail and the small twists she introduces to the traditional lore. It's a fast-moving, well-written excerpt, the kind of writing you like to curl up in a bed with on a long winter's night. So glad she found her way to Inkitt!

Wednesday, January 21, 2015 REVIEWS; THE HUNTERS OF RELORIA SERIES BY KASPER BEAUMONT
review by Sandra Boutwell-Falcone
In the coming weeks I will post reviews of Kaspar Beaumont's Hunter's of Reloria Trilogy.
Review: Hunters of Reloria, Book 1 Elven Jewel
Book 1 in the Hunters of Reloria series introduces us to some wonderful and unlikely heroes. Fendi, Randir, and Sienna are teen halflings used to living a mostly quiet life but they are thrust into a harsh new reality when they embark on a quest to warn others of the impending invasion about to overtake their lush and peaceful land. Hoards of Vergai, reptilian warriors from the land of Vergash are pouring into their quiet world through a portal in the shield which protects them from invaders. They are caught up in the rush to assemble an army to fight the invaders and rescue the kidnapped Elven princess, Shari-Rose. Along the way they are able to enlist the help of a motely assemblage of Relorias varied inhabitants. Once mortal enemies forge alliances to save their land. Human Knights fight alongside Dwarves and Goblins. The mysterious Mountain Man, Asher Grey leads the Hunters of Reloria to a bloody encounter with over one thousand Vergai on the plains. The battle is ultimately won but not without great cost and the princess remains captive beyond the portal in Vergash.
Kaspar Beaumont creates a wonderful new world with diverse landscapes and people. The sense of urgency inherent in the quest keeps you turning the pages. The close friendships and teen angst of the younger characters are layered against the growing comradeship of the medley of warriors. It is a quick and easy read for fantasy lovers of all ages. I look forward to the next book.

5 stars A Magical World,
December 28, 2014 By augustgirl - See all my reviewsThis review is from: Elven Jewel (Hunters of Reloria trilogy Book 1) (Kindle Edition) I do not normally read fantasy and was a little hesitant about reading Elven Jewel. But now that I have read it, I wonder why I didn't read it sooner. Kasper Beaumont has created a magical world where adventures lurk around every corner. The plot is well developed, and I was pulled into the story at once. The characters are unique and diverse with personalities that make them real and relatable. I would recommend this to anyone who loves a great read.

This is the first book in the Hunters of Reloria trilogy written by Kasper Beaumont. The genre of this series is fantasy and the author did a fantastic job with his literary and character descriptions, providing enough information to each fanciful race that one not normally affiliated with fantasy would be able to understand and even associate with some of the characters on a personal level, without it becoming so informative that it became lull. I believe the author achieved this in the clever way he introduced the characters along the way.
The story is one that produces and action packed saga while bringing different people with different beliefs together for the common goal of safety from a cold blooded reptilian race that has destroyed their own resources and are now out to simply take away from others. There was also a love triangle of small proportion in the beginning that kept readers interested as well and we all waited to see which boy the huntress was actually interested in. I found the huntress to be the most fascinating character in this story and enjoyed how much dedication the author put into her backstory and showing her multifaceted personality.
It was also nice to see the message that some of the characters turned out to be nothing like the rest of their race was considered to be like and how people should be given a chance to prove themselves different. There was a brilliant mixture of opposite type characters and things were kept peaceful by just that-the peaceful ones, and the while the egotistical meat headed knights and mountain man called a verbal truce; it was still interesting to see the tension between them still bubble to the surface.
The book ended with a wonderful conclusion that was loose enough that it left you wondering what happened to the princess and I look forward to reading the second one in this trilogy to find out! Overall I have given this book a 4 star rating. You can follow the link below to allow this book to infiltrate your mind as well.
Until Our Next Adventure,
Princess Penelope.

This review is from: Elven Jewel (Hunters of Reloria trilogy Book 1) (Kindle Edition)
Book 2 was on special one time and I one-clicked it not realising it was the 2nd book - and it sat on my TBR for a while, until I got a Tour request for the final book, so I was happy to sign up for reviewing as I could read the whole series without waiting ( So Glad that I did as I have really enjoyed delving into this fantasy world of Kasper Beaumont's).
If you like LOR and the Hobbit then you will enjoy this series. Its easier to read than the two mentioned Fantasy novels above so its a good book for younger readers who like a bit of fantasy in their book choice.
My Grandson is 8 and I think he would enjoy this series in a year or two.
The story line is pretty much explained in the synopsis, and although I can say in writing this now after reading 2 of the books, you can see Kasper's writing style improve as you read book 2.
In book 1 Kasper has laid down the foundations and world building, the characters are developed, bonds are formed between former adversaries.
There are some plot lines that are predictable in that they follow most fantasy story lines, but Kasper has created a world that grows with the books and I am now on Book 3 and I can honestly say that I would recommend that you give all 3 books a go as you do get enthralled in the in the Hunters journey to gather troops to do battle to save Reloria from the invaders.

Very imaginative with an abundance of interesting characters
I haven't read a fantasy book since The Hobbit trilogy which I loved. Never got around to reading the Harry Potter series although I have seen all the movies. Elven Jewel is right up there with these books. It is very imaginative with an abundance of interesting characters. Book 1 will leave you wanting to read Book 2. After all, we have to find out what happens to the jewel, don't we? If you want a quick read that will take you away from your daily routine, I recommend this well thought-out book. I'm looking forward to Book 2

This story will slowly and deliberately draw you into a new world created by a very talented author. The characters are well described, as well as the landscape. The plot line flows flows cleanly, blended with a few backstories of some of the characters. You are not bogged down with weighty prose in this novel and even the lulls in the story are intriguing. The one character I thought needed more personality was Prince/Sir Varnon. He was too monochromatic for me. Nothing made me like him or hate him, (except for the fact he didn't like Ash). He was like a clone of any other knight. He needed to do something extremely mean or extremely funny. AND the author went and killed my favorite character, Fandi. Shame! This is a great young adult fantasy series. I enjoyed it very much.

I was given this book for an honest review. Though it is not my usual genre, I found it to be thoroughly entertaining. It took me away into another world. The characters were so well described, likeable. And you felt as though you were along on their journey with all of their trials and tribulations. Even the descriptions of the forests put you right in there.
Author Kasper Beaumont skillfully takes you into the fantasy world of elves with their own tiny fairies, dwarves, and of course the evil doers. I was hooked from the moment I started reading; and it kept me needing to know what was going to happen next.
Looking forward to reading the next book to see how the story continues. I give this book a solid 5 stars!

We start off the series with two Halflings called Randir and Fendi and their fairies. Whilst out in the fields they overhear an alien species planning to invade their world and kill of the people of Reloria.
They rush to tell Fendi’s father who advises them that they need to travel to tell the elves that they need to protect the elven jewel, the jewel is what keeps them all safe by providing a protective shield over all of Reloria. Here starts the Halflings journey to save Reloria. Along the way they discover that the elven jewel is not what is seems. They meet some magical creatures and form unlikely bonds, and even in all of this danger they still manage to have some fun adventures. They become known as the ‘hunters of Reloria’ and they make some great new allies but also some very dangerous enemies.
I loved the book and quickly became enamoured with this magical world of fairies, dragons, centaurs and many of mythical beasts/beings and I enjoyed travelling through the many different and wonderful places that make up Reloria. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves magical worlds with mythical beings and lots of adventure and action.

5 stars A charming and original fantasy, September 6, 2014
By Leisl Kaberry - See all my reviews
This review is from: Elven Jewel: Hunters of Reloria series book 1 (Volume 1) (Paperback)
Kasper writes a charming and original fantasy with much thought and description going into her world. Regular races of beings we all know and love are mingled together nicely with a few of Beaumont's own creation.
In Reloria, we are introduced to a world that has many similarities to our own but with significant differences.
All the characters are commendably written, each complete with their own personalities that stand apart from the others. The dragon is also a nice touch, adding to the interesting blend of characters. I wasn't sure what to make of the fairies at first but they soon grew on me as their bond to the halflings became more developed.
The story was interesting and engaging and while perhaps a bit slow to begin, (as it often is in the first book of any fantasy series) once the action heats up and more characters are introduced, Elven Jewel becomes difficult to put down.
With battles that are drawn out and well described, (although I did find them a bit long at one point)and a storyline that is fluid and well plotted, I found Elven Jewel a superb start to the Hunters of Reloria series.

5 stars. A truly enjoyable read., August 27, 2014
By Markus BKR
‘Elven Jewel (Hunters of Reloria Book 1)’ by Kasper Beaumont is a fantasy adventure that, on the face of it, would be quickly dismissed as part of a deluge of fantasy novels that bear a striking resemblance to the genre classics. That is a mistake that you should not make. I’ve read countless stories about elves, halflings, dwarves, and dragons, and I can safely say that ‘Elven Jewel’ is a cut above its contemporaries for its imaginative creation of the world of Reloria and the depiction of a motley crew of hunters who intend to save the continent from barbaric invaders.
This is book 1 of the series so a set up is necessary to introduce the main characters as well as the immediate conflict. I find the pacing just right to immerse the reader into a new world where different races and creatures band together to achieve a common goal. I like how the characters have unique personalities with flaws and all, so there’s no confusion who’s saying what. This is something that I appreciate when reading a book with a host of characters.
The narrative style fits the genre and it presents the drama, humor, and the action at precisely the right time. It’s truly an enjoyable read.

Book Review: ‘Elven Jewel’ by Kasper Beaumont
Posted by: Charline Ratcliff August 26, 2014 in Book Reviews, Books, Sci-fi and Fantasy
4 stars A great start to a new Fantasy trilogy...
I recently came in contact with new-to-the-scene, fantasy author, Kasper Beaumont, via Twitter several months back. While introducing himself, Kasper had also asked if I would be interested in reviewing Elven Jewel, Book One of a new trilogy: Hunters of Reloria. Being that I thoroughly enjoy the fantasy genre, I agreed; practically sight unseen.
In retrospect, I’m happy that I did because Elven Jewel turned out to be a good read. It was interesting, entertaining, and easily able to capture my imagination, plus the storyline became more engrossing as I continued further into the tale. That’s about the only “downside,” so to speak, of multiple book stories – the sometimes longish introductions to the various characters and the multiple plot lines. This was really the only area where Beaumont’s newness to the writing world actually showed. However, as Elven Jewel progressed, Beaumont seemed to grow more confident in his writing ability and more at ease within the world he was creating.
Elven Jewel is set on a world called Zumar, in a land known as Reloria. It’s a beautiful place; magically protected but sadly, over the course of time, its inhabitants have drifted apart. Some of this drift can be attributed to continental distance, some due to the evolution of their race’s intelligence, and some … because of chosen isolation; believing that they had been betrayed. Wherever, and however, these various races each chose to live though, life was still good.
Yet the same cannot be said for Vergash, the home continent on Zumar for the reptilian race known as the Vergai. Because of the cruel, warmongering nature of these cold-blooded people, their lands are dying. Barren, dry, and desolate, Vergash can no longer support their needs. However, the Vergai are well aware of the bounty Reloria holds; having previously attempted to conquer it, but without a favorable outcome.
Upon the successful defeat of the Vergai army, the elves of Reloria immediately created a magical shield designed to protect the entire continent. Neither man nor weapon could penetrate this barrier … until now, that is.
This is where readers will begin their journey; with the discovery that this impervious barrier has just been breached via a dimensional portal created by sorcerers; prisoners of the Vergai. And those are the only details with which I will provide you… (Awww)!
Rest assured though, if you’re a fan of fantasy literature, you will enjoy reading Elven Jewel. It’s a good book; full of intrigue, surprises and unique plot twists. Beaumont has done a great job of laying the trilogy’s foundation. Of course, upon reaching the end of this first volume, I was quite disappointed to realize that I was, in fact, at the end. But wait! There isn’t any more?!
Overall, Elven Jewel is a great start to the Hunters of Reloria, and I’m certainly looking forward to reading the second installment!

5 stars discovering the wonderful world of Reloria, August 23, 2014
By Sara L. - See all my reviews
This review is from: Elven Jewel (Hunters of Reloria trilogy Book 1) (Kindle Edition)
I won a copy of this book in a giveaway.
Elven Jewel really deserves 5 stars. It's a classical epic fantasy that follows the best Lord of the Rings' tradition.
The plot is simple. The adventure starts when the Vergai, cruel soldiers who have the shape of reptile-like creatures, invade the peaceful world of Reloria. They want to steal the Elven Jewel, a magical stone able to create a shield to protect the Relorian land.
A group of people, coming from different regions of Reloria and different races – halflings, elves, dwarves, knights, and a dragon too – embark on a mission to fight the Vergai and save the Princess, who carries the Jewel.
What makes this book special is the author's ability to create Reloria's world. The readers can see lush woods, the magnificent elven palace, and small country towns of Reloria as if they were real in front of their eyes.
Besides, all the characters are believable and three-dimensional. From the young halflings, sweet and brave, to the dwarves, funny and stubborn, to the noble knights, all of them embody heroes with timeless values. Only their friendship, bravery, and loyalty can save Reloria. But their mission comes at a cost. Their peaceful lives change for good. They have to face terrible dangers, and they suffer dramatic losses.
My favorite characters are the fairies, tiny and beautiful. They are closely linked to the halflings, and they help them in their mission. The fairies don't speak much but they manage to express their feelings with their behavior and moves.
Finally, the book is wonderfully written. The author's style is simple and flowing, and perfectly goes along with the fast-paced action.

I recommend the book to the lovers of fantasy genre of all ages, from middle grade to adults.
I can't wait to read the second episode of the saga.

5 stars, Fabulous fantastic read for all ages!,
This review is from: Elven Jewel: Hunters of Reloria series book 1 (Volume 1) (Paperback)
Eleven Jewel the first book in author Kasper Beaumont's Hunters of Reloria series. This wonderful story takes you to a world where fairies are linked from birth to their halflings. The tale starts with two halfling boys Fendi and Randir playing along side their fairies. The boys lives are about to change dramatically as a large black hole appears and as the youngsters hide in the long grasses. They witness a troop of heavily scaled creatures wielding weapons enter their peaceful land. Reloria has suffered at the hands of the evil Vergai in the past and with The elven shield that has protected the land now under threat. The two boys aided with Fendris' father Old Fandri start on a journey to alert others of the danger that all in Reloria now face.
This is a beauitfully written book with characters that are well remembered after reading. My favorite character is Sienna who saves the boy halflings and joins them on their quest. She is brave and strong at the same time vulnerabe having recently lost her father and is now fending for herself. Wars are to be fought, a princess to be save, and friendsto be made. Knights, dwarves, halflings and many others take up their weapons to save their land.
This is a great adventure and will be loved by many. Truly deservive of 5 stars, I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

I don’t read many fantasy book out of fear they would contain boring plots or poor writing. I was extremely relieved to discover that Elven Jewel (Hunters of Reloria) by Kasper Beaumont did not fall into that category. This story will appeal to all Lord of the Ring fans. I enjoyed the characters and their journey and look forward to reading the rest of the trilogy.

An excellent job
Review by: EM Roberts
I would liken this to a YA Lord of the Rings! The story starts out really well and gets the reader invested in the characters. Kasper Beaumont does an excellent job with description and detail, and it is easy for the reader to imagine the halfling world. The book has just the right amount of innocence without overkill. The story also moves along quickly enough that it doesn't waste the reader's time with any unnecessary filler. Looking forward to the next installment and will recommend this author to other readers!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantasy
By Kelli Sue Landon "wstock70" (Illinois) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Elven Jewel (Hunters of Reloria trilogy Book 1) (Kindle Edition)
This is my first fantasy read, so it’s hard for me to get into this type of theme. Frankly, this is not my “thing”, so to speak. However, the world that Beaumont has created knocked my socks off! I find fantasy to be very challenging if one should write such genre. Hard to keep track of characters, worlds, events, etc. I had some difficulty with the characters, because the names were similar. Randir, Fandri, Fendi, Baja, Raja, and the fairies had the same names, but with “la” after them. The “la” actually helped me, because I knew it was a fairy with that suffix added. I will say, however, that I was able to keep track of the events that unfolded and I absolutely loved the characters of Sienna and Asher, as well as the trolls (their dialogue was quite enjoyable). I was also able to visualize this world with the clear descriptions and actions of the characters. Plus, I was very happy that this book had an excellent tie-up at the end, since another book follows with the story. With a little bit of romance thrown into a novel about war in the fantasy world of Reloria, I think fans of this genre would love this book! What an imagination Kasper Beaumont has. Hers is a gift to fantasy readers out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magical and Fantastical Creatures Abound in this delightful new series!
By L (UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Elven Jewel (Hunters of Reloria trilogy Book 1) (Kindle Edition)
What a wonderful beginning to what is surely set to become one of the best trilogies in children's fantasy fiction. When I say 'children', I would recommend this book for age 12+ readers.
Kasper Beaumont has created a fantastical world with the halfling friends Randir and Fendi transitioning from boys to men whilst under threat from the hideous and ruthless Vargai.
Tranquil and lovely Reloria becomes a battleground in Kasper Beaumont's rich tale of friendship, honour and love. <spoiler>
Magical and fantastical creatures abound with Winged horses and Dragons aside the peoples of the land, Elves, Dwarves and Goblins, to name only a few.
The plot progresses swiftly with the Vargai stealing the ' Jewel' which is crucial to Relorian defences. There are nice unpredictable turns as the story develops, especially with the Goblins!
Randir and Fendi are bonded to their fairies, and Kasper Beamont does a lovely job of creating these cheeky little creatures who wear green clothes and belled hats. One of my favourite parts in the story is when a clutch of fairies link hands and spin around an injured person to heal them. I loved the characters, especially Sienna, Old Fandir and Shari Rose, all very different characters who appealed for vastly different reasons. I also liked the sweet awkward blossoming of teen romance in the midst of all the mayhem. The book sets up beautifully for the next in the series that I will most definitely be reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant new fantasy world
I really admire a writer who can create a whole new world and Kasper Beaumont has done a brilliant job with her new fantasy book Elven Jewel of The Hunters of Reloria series. I was intrigued and loved the characters from the beginning. I am always pleased when I am taken in at the start of a new book and looking for more at the end. This was the way it was for me with The Elvin Jewel.
This is a great book for young readers and readers of all ages who like fantasy with fairies, dragons and monsters. If you liked reading The Lord of the Rings I'm sure you will like this book. Kasper has shown great skill and imagination as she cleverly put together new fantasy lands, people, creatures, cultures, names and scenery. The Elvin Jewel has a good mix of mystery, adventure, romance, friendship, heroes, villains and monsters. It has it all. Well done Kasper I am very pleased there is more to come as I would miss these delightful characters.

4.0 out of 5 stars A tale to read under a cherry tree, July 8, 2014
This tale reading it I felt like I was reading tolkien's The Hobbit.
I am not saying that to exaggerate but it gave a feeling of Frodo
traveling with Sam (except that ugly creature is not with them).
A tale of Fairies. It was great. The writing is very professional.
Many self published authors out there have trouble creating a high
quality novel. However this one was well written with little to no spelling errors.
The story moved slow yet the characters wit kept me entertained.
I think this is a great story to read on a sunny day under a tree
at the park.
I was given a copy by the author to review.
Check it out dudes.

Sometimes I just really love a good fantasy novel, and that seems to be what I've been getting alot of recently from other authors wanting me to review their work. Kasper Beaumont was another I met through an event on Facebook and when she told me of her book, it sounded like one I would enjoy reading, so here goes. :)
One common (and important) aspect of the Fantasy genre is the amount of detail that goes into creating these worlds, creatures, races of creatures, etc. If not done well, the possibility for the entire novel falling apart and being an epic fail is extremely high. This author really demonstrates strength in that area. The characters and settings came across pretty vividly, and it was obvious that a great deal of care did go into creating them. The plot is fun to follow, a pretty quick read (at least I thought so) and I enjoyed watching the lives of the characters (which there is a nice variety of) unfold.
If I had to rate it, I'd give it a 4 out of 5 only due to a couple editing issues I caught.
But if you enjoy the Fantasy genre, I do recommend giving this a try and adding it to your summer reading list. And if you don't typically read Fantasy, hey, maybe give it a try anyway. Never hurts, right?Posted on Smashwords, Goodreads and http://tiffanyapanwritingproject.blogspot.com.au/2014/06/review-sunday-kasper-beaumonts-elven.html

A Whole New World!
The Elven Jewel is a great fantasy novel I had the pleasure of reading. Nicely written with a solid pace. I fell into the world of Reloria and it's people. What I really liked about it, was all the different species coming together for one cause...to protect their world from the Vergai.
Though much of the story was centered around the halflings, Randir and Fendi and their fairies. I enjoyed meeting all the rest of the cast. The epic battle near the end is one I want to read again.
As a big fan of The Lord of the Rings, this novel was right up my alley and thoroughly recommend for anyone to read and continue on to the next installment.

5 stars This is a brilliant read, for any fan of fantasy it is a must read
I should start off by saying Elven Jewel is the first book of Hunters of Reloria trilogy. It is not a standalone which I honestly didn't pay attention to when I started reading it. So now, I have to pick up the other books because WOW. It can't just end there for me.
Here are my thoughts on this story.
I haven't ready a fantasy book in ten years. Sad but true. I've read paranormal fantasy I suppose, but there was always more of a romantic undertone to it. Actual fantasy, where there is more focus put on the various creatures, battles and other events...it's been far too long. I am beyond glad that this was the book that got me back into it.
I've always been impressed by Fantasy writers because there is so much detail needed in making these worlds come to life, as well as characters. My hat is off to Kasper as this was done brilliantly. The characters were strong, the locations described in such a powerful way it was as if at times I was right there in the heat of battle with them.
Certain characters stood out more than others and Asher! Ah! I did not see that coming. Wow. I laughed as I read along, I cried (oh did I cry at one certain point) but most of all I was completely swept up in the story and each of the characters put forth within it.
This is a brilliant read, for any fan of fantasy it is a must read, but it's really for all readers in general based on how well it is written. I enjoyed it immensely and I can't wait to get started on the next one!
Thank you Kasper Beaumont for bringing me back into the world of Fantasy!

5.0 out of 5 stars A supremely magical fantasy story of extraordinary depth and inspired vision,
This review is from: Elven Jewel (Hunters of Reloria) (Kindle Edition)
Similarly to master mythmaker, the legendary JRR Tolkien this truly remarkable debut novel is a masterwork of refreshing originality and breathtaking scope. What the deftly woven narrative lacks in profundity and intricate details (as to the world-building), more than makes up in imaginative concepts and inventive ideas. The use of metaphorical nuance as an undertone to Kasper Beaumont's fantasy world is brilliant, as it enhances the believability and realistic `feel' to his creation. I was swept away into a mystical realm of Halflings and curious creatures; from Elves to Dwarves, Sorcerers and dark enemies (as found in "The Hobbit"). I felt sure that the author draws his inspiration and concepts from children's classic fantasy tales such as The Hobbit and Narnia, yet with a distinctly contemporary twist and idiosyncratic style.
Elven Jewel is the first instalment within `The Hunters of Reloria' trilogy and an exciting new edition to the genre, targeted towards the younger reader (middle-grade/ YA) and yet is something that can equally be enjoyed by adult alike. This fantastical creation containing myth, magic and fairies is an adventure story of a lifetime, which takes you on a dark perilous quest into the unknown that you'll never forget!
*The purity and simplicity of this story is what makes it stand out within such a crowded, hugely popular (and competitive) genre in which many self-published works can get overlooked.
As far-removed as one could possibly imagine from say for instance those darker, grittier fantasy novels like George RR Martin's epic sequence `A Song of Ice & Fire' (which is something many fantasy readers of the 21st Century seem to expect these days). The light prose is slanted on the naïve side, so as to appeal to the younger reader and so expectations are met if you seek a sensational `children's' fantasy that's wide reaching and extensive. This captivating and hugely entertaining, riveting read was a pleasant delight and one that I would highly recommend.
*I would like to thank the author for providing me with an e-copy of his debut novel to read & review.

Nadaness In Motion
Elven Jewel by Kasper Beaumont is the first instalment in the Hunters of Reloria series, which feels a lot like, and has many similarities with, The Lord of the Rings. Elven Jewel, however, is written for a much younger audience.
Elven Jewel opens with the halflings having fun but suddenly they see invading Vergai creatures, which aredescribed as “reptilian creatures” and I couldn’t help but picture them as walking crocodile-like creatures.
Soon, we are thrown into a quest to seek out the elves and warn them of the incoming Vergai, who seek to steal the jewel that maintains the safety of this planet. Soon, however, the halflings and others become part of a bigger company that journey to battle the Vergai and rescue Princess Shari-Rose and the planet.
The idea of 'halflings' is reminiscent of the Hobbits in J. R. R. Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy; however the halflings of Reloria are bound by their bond-fairies; they can’t live without them, which is sometimes helpful but can be disagreeable, as in the story told by Sir Varnon towards the end of the novel.
On p. 171, there is “King under the mountain”, which is a direct reference to The Hobbit. Also, the dwarves living under the mountain is broader reference. The company, named “the Hunters of Reloria” p. 179, is slightly similar to the Fellowship of the Ring: there are two dwarves instead of one, there is an elf, there are three halflings instead of four and there is the mysterious mountain man, who could be similar to Gandalf though we don't know if possesses magic. There will also be Varnon, who is a Knight, similar to Aragorn of the race of Men.
The emotions Fendi feels for Sienna are also reflected in those between their fairies, Fendi-La and Sienna-Li. Still, as readers we don't know much about fairy relationships but they are obviously easier than human-halfling ones.
We were told that the elves were "aloof" and we already know the princess is bad-tempered. However, she is obnoxious! Her haughtiness shifts to wailing and the typical representation of a woman crying. For some reason, I, as a reader, feel that her emotions are fake, considering how haughty she had been a few seconds earlier.
There is a contrast in the characters of the two boys and a starker contrast between the two women: Sienna and Shari-Rose. Sienna is confident and deals with loss much better than the princess who is six years her senior.
We get the first confrontation between the independent and indignant Sienna and the proud princess (p.89). The reader can't help but be sympathetic towards Sienna and have the urge to smack the princess even if she is the most important character to the events of this story.
It is said at the beginning of the novel that elves are haughty. We see it in the princess and again in Daeron, her guardian. I felt his long speech on p. 155 is too long and annoying, especially since he defends the obnoxious nature of his charge, whom he has been guarding since birth but has not tried to fix. Though, the reader hopes this ordeal will teach the princess a thing or two about humility and good manners. Daeron’s speech comes in response to Randir’s highly ironic and funny quote “[He] decided he would never understand that irksome elf. “When she’s not being an absolute troll!” he said loudly.”
Several times in the novel, I got the feeling that the characters talk too much. An example is on p. 266, when Sir Varnon praises Fendi’s negotiation skills, and on p. 267, when Fendi talks to a half-asleep Sienna. Also, Sir Varnon is too formal at times, like when he talks to Fendi on p. 272. It feels as though Sir Varnon is addressing someone much older than Fendi.
There are, of course, some memorable quotes and images in Elven Jewel. On p. 146, Asher tells Shari Rose: “To be kidnapped once may be unlucky Princess, but twice is exceedingly careless.”
Even though Shari-Rose is supposedly the centre of the story we don't see her much, which is a good thing considering her temperamental character. Still, it is interesting that there is no main or single protagonist in the story. We have several heroes with different abilities and ideas. This gives a great depth to the novel Elven Jewel. There is no single protagonist; there are several heroes and the reader is free to choose their favourite.
My overall rating for Elven Jewel is 3 stars and I look forward to embarking on the rest of the journey with the Hunters of Reloria in Hunters’ Quest.

By Chris - See all my reviews5.0 out of 5 stars Jewel of a fantasy,
This review is from: Elven Jewel (Hunters of Reloria) (Kindle Edition)
One of the things I have loved about fantasy since I got hooked as a very young reader was the ability to travel to worlds where nothing was impossible but dragons, fairies, elves and gnomes all existed and so vividly that you became part of that world. Well in Elven Jewel I was once again transported to a new world, it was like finding this genre all over again and in a beautifully written book that will make you forget your surroundings but become part of the Hunters of Reloria as they set out on their quest.
It starts a little slow but this is forgiven because the stage is being set for a much wider show and there has to be sone groundwork first.
Most of the action is seen through the eyes of the young halflings, peace loving inhabitants who are suddenly thrust into the center of an invasion and war that will be life or death for their land.
Fendi and his bond-fairy quickly became my favourite, quieter than his friend Randir he learnt and grew as the story progressed, another favourite was Asher who was exiled from his own people but a man of honour, and Sienna a young female halfling who was an experienced huntress.
This story will take your imagination for a holiday to the land of Reloria so sit back and enjoy the trip, this is the first in the series and I can't wait to read the rest.

This review is from: Elven Jewel (Hunters of Reloria) (Kindle Edition)
This book is well worth the read even with the minor issues. The writing is good. The characters are each unique with personalities and flaws befitting them. The plot is interesting enough to keep the reader engaged even through the slow parts. Certain scenes felt unpolished or roughly edited. Overall there's potential for a solid fantasy and I would still recommend this to fantasy fans as is. I'm looking forward to seeing how this author develops and would defiantly read future releases. I received an evaluation copy from the author in exchange for an honest opinion and review. In no way has this influenced our opinion.

Will lead the readers to a mystical land they will never want to leave. 5 Stars * * * * *
I must say that it has been a long time since I read a fantasy as good as Lords of The Rings. I simply loved this book and cannot wait to start reading the next one. Elves, halflings, fairies, lizard-like-scaly creatures, a plan for invasion, a quest to save a land, and what not! This books has it all. It is a fantasy worth reading and I applaud the author for writing such an original, refreshing tale, which will lead the readers to a mystical land they will never want to leave.
Two Halflings and their fairies are the first one to see the scaly invaders, and now it is their task to reach Elves and warn them of the impending danger. Their land is rich in food and the fear of invasion is the reason why elves used their magic to build a shield around it. Now these invaders have found a way to penetrate through it and their mission is to break the shield and lead their army in. They want to capture this rich in resources land. But will they succeed in their evil plans or not is yet to be seen.....
This book is so well written that once started reading you will not be able to put it down. Fantasy is one of my preferred genre and Elven Jewel did not disappoint me in any way. I will recommend this book to any fantasy lover. In fact even if you weren't a fantasy lover, read this, and you may change your opinion about fantasies.

PATRICIA’S REVIEW
I like reading fantasy on a cold afternoon. Its a great read for a that cold or rainy afternoon. Where you can curl up and just read. Cause once you start you don’t want to put the book down. The book is about four halflings that set out on a quest. They must leave their village and race against time to stop the evil that is coming. As they head out on the quest they are helped out by dwarves, elves and a dragon. Yes there is a dragon in this story. I am loving dragon stories as of late. The quest is perilous and they must find the jewel before it is too late .
I found myself really liking this book. It so reminded me of the Lord of the Rings . With the elves and dwarves fighting along side each other trying to stop an evil force. The author weaves a tale of elves and dwarves that are well written and delightful read. Once you start reading you can’t put it down. They are such magical creatures and you want to know what happens page after page.
I feel this book is great for tweens and teens. But, even at my age I really liked the book. This book portrays the good values of friendship, and knowing that if working together . You can overcome almost anything. The most important thing that you can take away from this book is. That friendship is something worth fighting for and not all people are evil. If you love fantasy ,I will say that you will love this book . Its great for anyone from
the ages of 10 – 100 .
I give this book a 5 out 5 stars

This series is a must. Don't miss it! 5 stars * * * * *
Elven Jewel, is an action packed fantasy with very unique, original and well thought concepts. Is a great beginning to the series–slow paced but extremely entertaining nonetheless. In fact once you get into it you won’t even notice because every aspect will pull you into this magical story with ease. In the book you will be introduced to an array of different mystical characters: Dwarves, Elves, Halflings and even a mysterious dragon. Something I found very imaginative of the author is the Halfling/fairy bond– I have to say that it adds great touch of uniqueness to the story. To summarise for those of you that are fans of fantasy and The Lord of The Rings this series is a must. Don’t miss it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Real Jewel!!
I have not read a good fantasy since Lord of the Rings and I was a little weary of that fact until page two. Mr. Beaumont has put together a story to capture the imagine and hearts from beginning to end.
Invaders have come to Reloria intent on destroying its people and taking over. With brave halflings, fairies, elves, knights, dwarves, goblins, trolls and, oh yes, a dragon, this story takes you on a journey and shows you the strength, joy, heartache, love and friendship that this unlikely group has. It shows you how different beings come together and fight for the same cause. Mr. Beaumont teaches life lessons while telling a wonderful story.
This is the first in a series that leaves you with promise. Elven Jewel is a story for all ages, young and old, that enjoy a good fantasy. I look forward reading more from Mr. Beaumont.

I always enjoy a good quest with mythical creatures
by All About Children's Books
"About the story: The story is a fantasy adventure about good versus evil. Four halflings, along with their bond fairies, set out to save their land, Reloria, from the evil Vergais (large, scaly creatures). There are also dwarfs, elves, knights and a dragon that team up with the halflings on their adventures to return the stolen Elven Jewel and, in turn, save their homeland.
What I thought: The story started out slow for me, but as I read more into the adventure and got closer to the characters, I couldn't help but become drawn into this fantasy world. This world is in some ways familiar to the reader, yet has its own uniqueness in the diverse, entertaining characters and plot to make it an original fantasy tale.
The characters are original, well-rounded, and believable. The reader comes away from the story with the sense that not all beings are evil, that their is hope for the future, that friendship is worth fighting for, that sometimes good can come out of adversity, and not to give up on what is important.
I always enjoy a good quest with mythical creatures, magic, elves, dwarfs, knights, a dragon, high action and dangerous adventures, and characters that run me through a gamut of emotions. This book has all of that and more."

Recommends it for: All fantasy lovers
What a rich tapestry of characters! I loved the first line of this book: "Hurry up you slackers, this portal won't stay open for long." I read this book in one day. It kept me entertained and on the edge of my seat from the beginning through to the end. I enjoyed the story thoroughly!
I would place this book right up there with Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series and even The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. The author created a well woven story complete with elves, fairies, dwarves, humans, and even a dragon!
While I awarded this book a 5 star review, it could probably have used one more read through to find and fix a few of the errors. But though there may have been just a few more than you'd usually find in any book (and I do mean only a few), they in no way adversely affected the enjoyability of the story.
This is book one in the Hunters of Reloria series. Book two is also available. The third book is currently being written. Author Kasper Beaumont is definitely an author whose writing career I'll be following from here on out!

A young adult fantasy steeped in adventure
by Once Upon a Mummy
A group of mixed race folks, brought together in an epic quest to save their princess and their country. A journey across lands, finding ways to bridge gaps between their old grudges and assumptions. A young adult fantasy steeped in adventure and quietly spoken messages.
I really enjoyed this book! There were a couple of editing issues and the pace seemed to vary in strange spots – but I still loved it. There were parts where the author has taken from “real” life, and often this is a little more obvious than I like in my fantasy – but it works. I smiled, cried (yep – I actually cried) and secretly jumped for joy (in my head) in some parts.
There are also some amazing artworks on Kaspers’ Facebook page (see above for link) as part of a competition she held. Check them out, like the page and tell her I sent you
Give it a go! I think even people who don’t typically like the fantasy genre will enjoy this as it isn’t too over the top! I am keen to start reading book 2 ASAP

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully crafted tale

This review is from: Elven Jewel (Hunters of Reloria) (Kindle Edition)
The Elven Jewel was a fast paced traditional fantasy tale, the first in the Hunters of Reloria series. It was a beautifully crafted tale of two opposing forces, good and evil. Although it has elements of familiarity, there was enough uniqueness in the plots and characters, to ensure originality and believability.
This tale will spirit the reader away and join in the wondrous and often dangerous adventures, Halflings Randir, Fendi and old Fandri with their fairies, must endure. There is a purity and richness to the descriptive writing style; where depth of plot and characters, are woven into the excellent word building and sentence structures, gradually increasing as the tale progresses. This was one definitely for all the family to enjoy; why should the children have all the fun!
Well done! a very enjoyable and entertaining read.
Thank You.

Beautifully descriptive
By SJB
"This delightful novel has action, adventure, magic, comedy, innocence, friendship, morality and even a shy little romance.
Elven Jewel is a beautifully descriptive first novel by Kasper, who takes her readers on an engaging journey and delivers them to the end, wanting more ... hence Part 2 ... Hunters' Quest.
Recommended for all fantasy fans.
I believe it is suitable for the middle readers, that is, out of children's stories and not quite ready for the young adult novels. This is an area that needs fresh material. Parents, if you are wondering about the content, it is most suited to such a target area. There is absolutely no bad language or sexual connotations at all."

"I love magic and fantasy and Elven Jewel had all the right ingredients. Dwarfs, Halflings, Dragons, Elves, Fairies and Ugly Bad Guys...so why wouldn't it be great??!! It was a fast paced, fantastic adventure. The characters are believable, some lovable, some evil to the bone. I couldn't put it down and cant wait for the sequel. My husband also read it and loved it so its for all kinds of people, young and old...good job Kasper!!"

I have really enjoyed reading Elven Jewel ! I haven't read a lot of fantasy books, and picked this up on recommendation from a friend. Where the quest came upon danger, i found myself reading ahead to make sure my favourite characters were safe, then go back to my original spot. I loved the story line. The Halflings and their bond fairies were very interesting and fun to follow, and the dragon who saves the day. I'm looking forward to starting the Hunters Quest and will enjoy reading again with my kids when they are a little older. Highly recommended !

Elven Jewel reviewed by Holly Murphy Author
I like the bond fairies of the halflings
Elven Jewel is set in the mythical land of Reloria with a collection of most every mythical creature living within its borders. The story begins with two innocent friends Fendi and Randir who are halflings, when they are set on a quest to save their realm from evil conquerors. Along the way they make many new friends and allies, and transform from innocent, sheltered youths into battle hardened, wise adults.
Most of the story is written as though a narrator were relating the events, with closer views from the characters included. The young halflings interact in a casual, friendly manner which portrays their close camaraderie, and includes the huntress Sienna when she arrives on the scene early into the story. The language is well portrayed with more formal conversations between royalty in contrast to the funny dialect of the goblins trying to speak the common tongue. The narration is easy to read and follow and flows well.
Sienna was my favourite character. A feisty huntress, orphaned at a young age and left to the less than seemly care of her dubious uncle, Sienna starts out as a grubby and abrupt girl who transforms into a valuable member of the Hunters of Reloria with an important role in training new recruits. She softens as she evolves, developing feelings for her friend Fendi and forms a brotherly with Randir. She takes advice from the princess and cleans herself up for the first time and dons a pretty dress to surprise Fendi for his birthday. She manages to do all of this without losing her fierceness or independence.
I liked the bond-fairies of the halflings, they were a special element that touched on one of my favourite elements of the fantasy world that I would like to have seen a little more of. I also enjoyed the mystery surrounding Ash the mountain man and his dragon transforming abilities, as well as his tendency to tame the tantrum-throwing princess with merely a look. The death scene of old Fendri was touching and the following ceremony involving the bond-fairies was a nice, heart-warming touch to an otherwise sad moment.
Fans of the Lord of the Rings books would enjoy this book, as well an any general fantasy fan who can appreciate a grand quest being embarked upon by innocent novices.

It's so awesome! 5 stars
This book is incredibly good, it starts of slow but everything fantasy does. But once you get into the meat of the story there is some great moments and the relationship between the Halflings and bond fairies is beautiful and towards the end so sad. And I personally love swords and magic so that is a big plus for me. Overall this is a very solid book good for all people from 8 to an billion or something . Also I like that there a dwarfs going round selling beer and drinking so of it too. But most of all DRAGONS ARE AWESOME and I think they are used well here. So this is from the viewpoint of a twelve year old so ITS SO AWESOME

Action packed fantasy
This is an action packed Fantasy novel with some really original concepts. Most interestingly the "bond fairies". I enjoyed the battle scenes the most as they were really well written. The budding romance was also really sweet and added a nice change to the usual type of romance (if any) you see in a fantasy novel. Loved reading this from start to finish and can't wait for the next book.

Reminds me of the Lord of the Rings. 5 stars
I have been a fan of Fantasy for over 30 years with my intro into fantasy being The Lord of the Rings. I am always overjoyed when a book hits the scene that reminds me of the LoTR and this is one of them.
I can recommend this awesome adventure for any fantasy fan and love the mix of halflings and reptilians. Kinda reminds me of the Dragonlance sagas as well, a nice touch.

CLASSIC FANTASY WITH NEW AND MODERN TWISTS!
Classic fantasy with all the expected elements- magic, mystery, quests, dragons, knights, damsels in distress, heroes and a lots of different races.
However, this author also introduces halfings and their bond fairies a whole new type of magical character. As well as her unique characters which have well developed personalities, Kasper Beaumont writes in a language that is modern and clear to follow making this an easy read.
Looking forward to next book.

"A diamond in the rough"
Initially, I didn't fall in love with Elven Jewel. It started out a little slow for me, but what high fantasy doesn't start that way? Another issue I had is that during some of the fast paced moments a bit of description is lost, specifically during some of the beginning battles. There were a few issues with editing, but any of us who have written a book know how difficult it is for indie authors to check their own work. A fresh pair of eyes is key.
The story has some old ideas and some new, but if I had set the book down, however, I would have been at a loss. This young adult story just happens to be a diamond in the rough, and anyone who has read through the entire book knows it.
The story begins with some halflings and their faeries playing together in a field far from their home, which just happens to be the place where a portal opens from a land on the other side of the world. The owners of the gateway are a civilization of carnivorous lizard-like people who despise all other life and intend to conquer all the other civilizations simply to fill their own bellies. In fact, they seem barely capable of keeping hostages without eating them.
After the lizard species begins to invade, the young halflings tell one of their fathers, who packs them all up for a journey to warn the elves, the magical protectors of Reloria. The journey does not come without trouble, and soon enough, the young people find themselves fighting alongside fierce warriors of magic, blade, and shield.
I later found myself enjoying the story. All in all, it could use some work, but all the complaints I first mustered were eventually quelled by a fun tale and unique characters and races of people, all with their own sets of skills. I plan on passing it to my son who enjoys epic fantasies. Let me know how you feel down below.

A Delightful Fantasy
The Elven Jewel is a thoroughly entertaining fantasy. It tells the story of how four halflings set out on a journey to stop large, scaly creatures taking over their peaceful land of Reloria. Along the way, the halflings are joined by dwarves, elves, knights and even a dragon, all eager to help crush the invaders and return the stolen Elven Jewel to its rightful place. But will they be in time? Will they be able to ward off the terrible creatures from Vergash?
I found this to be a very enjoyable read. Author Kasper Beaumont skillfully takes the reader into the world of elves, dwarves and even fairies. The characters are both well written and delightful. I was hooked from the moment I started reading; I needed to know what was going to happen next. I understand this is the first of a series; therefore I shall be looking out for the next episode. Not to be missed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable afternoon read
I enjoyed this book immensely. I feel that it was written for tweens and teens, but at 49, I thought this book was very exciting, and am eager to read the next novel in the series.
The action takes the form of fighting an alien race that wishes to pillage the peaceful world the group live on, and to make it worse, they will be discarded like rubbish, when their world has nothing left to offer.
It reminds me of an old time Saturday afternoon radio serial, in as much as there is action, comedy, heartache and problems from everyday life, growth spurts, pimples etc., right through to old fashioned romance as the boys meet new people on the way, but nothing is so bad as to give up.
It sends a message, I feel, of hope for the future, and friendship is something rare but worth fighting for. People are not all evil, and if you bother some good can come from adversity.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read from a fresh voice for young fantasy fans
I'm not normally a fantasy reader, but I'm so glad my friend put me onto this title. It's great to read something from a brand new writer who obviously has a brilliant imagination and a clever way with words. This is ideal for readers from about 11 up (depending on your young reader's interests and ability). It's a fairly simple quest narrative, with goodies and baddies that teaches the reader a few lessons about team work, friendship and working towards your goals. The main characters are likeable but I was really taken with their little fairy spirit guides - who go with them everywhere and are always the opposite gender to the character. It seems like a perfect yin/yang balance and got me thinking about the way we all travel life with a little 'angel' and a little 'devil' on our shoulders guiding the way. It's hard for me to compare this to other books in the genre, since I haven't read many, but for me it was an enjoyable read with enough plot twists to hold my interest - while also following the traditional path of a fantasy quest leading to a satisfying conclusion. I look forward to more from this writer!

An entertaining read
The story overall was quite original and it was an entertaining read. Looking forward to the next one! I've also enjoyed following the facebook site and the different fantasy art you put up.
