Gertrude's Birthday by Diane Andrews
You'll enjoy this one, folks.
Sweet little old Gertrude is celebrating her 70th birthday with lunch and a shopping trip in town.
The wait staff and customers will never suspect this kindly-looking lady is not what she appears to be at all. Oh Gertrude, you had me fooled for a minute too, but I bet other readers will cotton on quickly when they read this amusing short story.
Highly recommended for all ages.
Pot of Gold by Asher Roby
Pot of Gold is a gentle tale of two elderly ladies who have been friends for many years. Meredith has lived a full life and is surrounded by family and happy memories. Mary escaped the Nazi's as a young child and has spent her entire life searching for her family's legend of a Pot of Gold. Mary has never married and felt so consumed by her quest, she has never been truly happy with her life.
I enjoyed this tale and thought it well thought out. I would have liked a little more emotional connection to the characters, as it is a very sad story of a wasted life. I think there is a great moral message here to 'seize the day' and not wait for something in life that may never happen.
Recommended for readers of all ages.
