Thanks Nita for entering and best of luck in the competition. 2 more entries from her to come too. Yay! Watch this space.
Only 3 days left to enter the Hunters' Quest art competition and have a chance to win $150 and get your pic on a new novel.
Sienna and her bond-fairy Sienna-Li, are pivotal characters in all three Hunters of Reloria novels. I like the way this artist has depicted the halfling and also the dragon in the background using pencils. Thanks Nita for entering and best of luck in the competition. 2 more entries from her to come too. Yay! Watch this space. Only 3 days left to enter the Hunters' Quest art competition and have a chance to win $150 and get your pic on a new novel. 'The Mysterious Dragon' is a great title for this drawing, as I try not to tell people too much about the dragon before they read the book. Suffice it to say that the dragon is a very important character. He is grey and had emerald scales under the wings. Young Kyla has done a fine job of drawing him in pencil, with every scale detailed, and a wall of flame in the background. What a great use of colour! Well done Kyla and best of luck in the competition. 'Fly away' is a new entry in the art competition by a wonderful Australian artist I discovered online. It was created using mixed media of water colour, ink, paper, and tape. The colours are so vibrant and I love the textures. I can just imagine her flitting around Reloria with the halflings, and helping the flowers open. You can see more of Lissy's artwork at the Yellow poppies Facebook page. Thanks for entering and best of luck in the competition. There are just a few days left in the art competition and judging will take place next weekend. Nathan Bourke threw me a curve ball this morning with his unusual 3D entry. Here's his description: "It is of grand mage Nnanelli.. it is a shine made hundreds of years ago by a anchant elder that told of one that would come. With great powers . The shine replicates. Grand mages younger year . It is placed in a his dwelling. In the room that holds many great thourghts." It's great to see artists letting their imagination run wild. Just a week left to go in the art competition. I wonder if we'll have any more entries. Cheers, Kasper. I can tell this artist is a fan, because he drew a character I didn't list in the website descriptions. Rusty (short for Rustic Warrior) is Sir Varnon's dog and being a bloodhound, he's a great tracker. He follows the scent of the felidar wildcats across the Zanzi Grasslands with Squire Jacab, the halflings and fairies. He's a loyal companion. Well done to 12-year-old Bailey for this great drawing. Look at those sharp nails! Best of luck in the competition. I'm glad I didn't read the bad reviews before I saw the movie, because I really enjoyed it. 47 Ronin is an action adventure based on a true story of 47 Samurai seeking to avenge their master, but is set in a Japan containing witches, demons and magic. Ronin are masterless Samurai. So, you're starting to see why I like it. Yes, it has fantasy, but it also has much more: the beautiful scenery of rural Japan and its villages; the dignity and honour of its people; and the beautiful costumes and cinematography. Oh, and did I mention a lot of sword fighting? My partner and I both enjoyed it and are Keanu fans from his Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure and the Matrix days. One thing I would advise the debut director (Carl Rinsch) for next time, would be to avoid the long close ups of Keanu's facial expressions, 'cause even though we love him, he only has the one expression. I think the film captured quite well the mostly gentle life of the feudal Japanese people, but also the absolute rule of the Chogun and warlords. The suicide ritual or Seppuku of the Samurai is sad and very dignified. 47 Ronin was pretty well panned by the critics before and after its release. Of course critics rarely rate action and fantasy films highly, so stick to my reviews peeps, LOL. I think if you enjoy a good sword and sorcery romp (think Elven Jewel), you'll probably like this one too. 4 out of 5 stars from me. Happy viewing. Fendi is such a brave young halfling and it's great to see a drawing of him and his bond-fairy. It's very well done by 10 year old artist Kyla in coloured pencil. I like the little touches like the glimpse of his broadsword and the pointed ears. I wonder if that is the great elven forest in the background. Thanks for entering and best of luck in the competition. Here's a great entry by 16-year-old Mei-Ling from Australia, entitled 'The Elf Queen.' It was done using the Paint Tool digital program. It amazes me how artists can have such vivid and differing interpretations of my characters. Well done. It looks like the second book will also be on sale in Dymocks, so here's a great chance for artists to have their artwork on a novel. The competition closes at the end of the month and first prize is $150 and the picture on the back cover of Hunters' Quest. Cheers, Kasper. Harf and Gar are so bad that they're good and the hunters really want to gain these fierce little fighters as allies. 3 foot tall, green and lanky and wearing loincloths, they have long pointed noses with thin ears protruding sideways from elongated heads and mouths filled with sharp, spiky teeth. Their skinny limbs look too long for their scrawny bodies with long, filthy fingers. They live in the mountains, fight with rusty daggers and speak a simplified version of Zumaran Common language. I can't wait to see how artists depict them. Cheers, Kasper Michael Fertig from Chicago sent in this great digital picture today. It's amazing I didn't even guess it was digital, just thought it would be done with paints. Well done Michael and best of luck in the competition. Alpheratz is the King of the Centaurs and a really interesting character. Follow his adventures with the Hunters of Reloria in the new Hunters' Quest novel, now available on ebook at Smashwords, Amazon and many other online stores. The competition runs for 2 more weeks, the prize is $150 and your picture on the back of the new paperback novel.. Cheers, Kasper. |
