Q: What do you call a book sale that isn't a sale? A: A Facebook Happening I kinda like the name: 'happening', which is reminiscent of the 1960s when happenings were the place to be. I support the concept behind this event, where authors are making a stand against the current trend of giving away your hard work for nothing, After all what other industry gives away their product for free? None. |
Not a single book will be given away
Not a single prize will be awarded
Just some fantastic authors
With great books
At reasonable prices
All times Eastern US.......
You may be asking: why should I attend this happening? The answer is simple: to meet an awesome bunch of authors. I have met many of the participants online and have read some of their excellent books. If you are happy to spend $3 or so on a cup of coffee which lasts but a few minutes, then please consider supporting an author who has spent a year or more writing a book. I sure will.
A bit about the free book debate:
Have I given books away? Yes I have. Why might I do that? That's a very good question. In short, I give free books in exchange for a review on Amazon. Also from time to time I will make the first book of my trilogy 'Elven Jewel' available for free. This is a marketing tactic. Rather than spend fortunes to advertise, I choose to make my book free for a while and as the word gets around, folks snap it up and often buy the other books, which is where I make my money. Now that book took me over a year to write, have edited and published. Is it worth nothing? Definitely not, but as I said it is the cheapest form of advertising. It doesn't cost a cent for me to give away a book, so that is what I choose to do sometimes. My book has recently been free for an entire month and my Amazon rankings are now the highest they have ever been and sales are steady. This is a very good outcome for me. But all good things must come to an end, so I have now raised the price to 99c and will see how sales and rankings go that that selling point.
I hope I have convinced you to pop along and learn more about these authors. You are bound to see books you like there, so snap up a few and support the hard-working authors.
Our Books Are Not Free runs from February 11 to 15 ( or 12-16 if you are in Australia and nearly a day ahead). My timeslot for promoting the Hunters of Reloria series is on Valentine's Day at 2pm Eastern U.S. time, and 5am Brisbane time the next day.
