Greg Spry zooms in for a #FSFNet author interview

Looking like a photo out of the year's most eligible bachelor list, science fiction writer, Greg Spry is full of surprises.
After studying engineering and then his graduate degree at Florida's Institute of Technology, Greg is qualified in space mission design. This must have been the perfect training for outer space sci-fi writing.

Greg flew in for an author interview this week to talk to me for the Fantasy Sci-Fi Network.
Here are some highlights from our chat:
*   Greg was a prolific writer, even back in elementary school
*   He is currently writing the third story in the Beyond Saga.
*   Beyond the Horizon (Beyond Saga book 2) has just been released on Amazon.
*   NASA and even our own solar system can be credited as inspirations for his writings.
*   He enjoys his day job and they are supportive of his writing - sounds a perfect match
*   Greg is a prolific blogger, just check out the links throughout the interview
*   When asked if he preferred Star Wars or the Lord of the Rings, he has a different answer altogether.

Check out the full interview here

Greg's new release is Beyond the Horizon (Beyond Saga Book 2)
Ensign Maya Davis has had her sights set on the captaincy of a starship since she launched her first toy rocket into Earth orbit at age four. But not long after she departs the solar system aboard humankind's first interstellar vessel, New Horizons, sabotage cripples the ship, killing a third of the crew and stranding the expedition light years from home under the siege of hostile forces. Without knowing who she can trust, Maya must risk her life to get the crew home and prevent the genocide of the very          exospecies Horizons set out to contact.

Meet this cool supernatural author: Woelf Dietrich @Woelf20 #FSFNet

Author Woelf Dietrich
Woelf Dietrich is a New Zealander who writes dark fantasy and supernatural novels.  He began writing short stories at the age of 12 and has now published Seals of Abigal: book one of the Guardians of the Seals Tales.
Woelf also has an interest in drawing and enjoys drawing fantasy comics of musclebound warriors and scantily clad vixens.  He has also been a cartoonist.
His interesting career includes: being a lawyer, living in a Kibbutz is Israel and selling pots and pans in Africa.

Woelf popped by to talk to me about his writing in a Fantasy Sci-Fi Network interview.
Here are my favourite points:
*   Woelf borrowed his pen name from the German hero of fantasy writing
*   The mythology in Woelf's writings is borrowed from many cultures
*   There are dragon bones in Poland (I must check those out)
*   Woelf lists 6 works in progress in the interview (wowsers!)
*   Listing just five favourite authors is a tough challenge for this guy
*   He has the best answer to the Star Wars vs Lord of the Rings question

You can read the full interview
here.

The Seals of Abigal
Bookstore owner and novice antiquarian, Sebastian Kaine is proud of his new profession and even prouder still of the collection of antique books on the occult that he keeps locked away in the basement of his bookstore.
But his little utopia is shattered one night when he wakes up in that same basement, bound and bloodied, and his prized collection all but destroyed.
As he tries to stay alive, Sebastian discovers The Seals of Abgal is far more than just an ordinary grimoire for it holds powerful secrets.

Getting started on Twitter #social #media #tips

Hey there happy campers,  I have had a few requests to demystify the social media phenomenon of Twitter.  Strap on your aviation goggles and away we go ...
The goal of using Twitter is to convey a message in 140 characters or less.  As there are millions of tweets created globally every minute, the onus is on you to make sure that your message is read by your target audience by using hashtags, pictures, links and creating engaging content.
Refer to my post on Twitter hashtags here.
The first step is to create your own name, which is called a 'Twitter handle.'  It's recommended to choose a handle which tweeps (Twitter users) can easily identify as you.  If you have a goal to create your business brand across multiple social media platforms, then keeping to the same or similar wording is advised.  For example: Facebook: Kasper Beaumont;
Twitter: KasperBeaumont@KasperBeaumont;
Pinterest: Kasper Beaumont;
LinkedIn: Kasper Beaumont.
If a tweep has already used the name you desire, then try adding some extra numbers at the end, or creating a fun handle such as '@KasperDragon' which is part your name and part descriptive.
Remember that this handle will be attached to tweets and take up some of the 140 characters allowed, so a handle of 15 characters or less is advised.

Good luck with it, and happy tweeting.

Topic for next time: Following tweeps

I think there is something special about author Michael Lackey @supes23 #FSFNet #interview

With reviews like 'You need to stop reading this right now and BUY THIS BOOK,' I was intrigued to see what all the fuss was about concerning debut author, Michael Lackey.
The
Bad Seed author's bio relates how Michael had such an active imagination growing up that he would create an entire imaginary world to play in.
He dreamed of being a Hollywood stuntman and slaying mythical beasts.
Michael popped by to the Fantasy Sci-Fi Network this week and I had the privilege of interviewing him.  Here are some highlights from our chat:
*     Michael's writing took a back seat for several years and reading a popular fantasy series has reignited his passion
*     He sat down to write one day and stopped 95,000 words later.  Wowsers!
*     You are going to love discovering his day job.  I'm a little jealous.
*     He has two works in progress so that writers' block is not an issue
*     Michael's dream job combines both writing and travel.

Check out the full interview
here.

Michael's debut novel is The Bad Seed: Book 1 in the Battle for the Heavens series
Synopsis:
Zachery Morely gets more than a basket of herbs from the family garden. Follow him as he is visited by an evil demon planting the seed that will destroy his world. What help can King Gabriel and his Kings Guard be against pure evil? Can they stop the demons from summoning their master? The Champion of Light will try and stop them, if he would just hurry and turn eighteen!

Getting to know magical author Meredith Mansfield @mansfieldmj #fantasy #author

Looking a little shy with her closed eyes and blissful smile, Meredith Mansfield is an author I was keen to learn more about...and I'm pleased to say that her interview didn't disappoint.
With a diverse career including paralegal, programing and financial analysis, writing has been a constant of Meredith.  This lovely lady has also spent time as a carer for her mother and no doubt her fantasy ideas have been bubbling away for many years.
With an impressive 15 titles available on Amazon, Meredith is a great author for those looking for  a good fantasy series.

As luck would have it, I scooped an interview with her this week for the Fantasy Sci-Fi Network.
Here are some highlights:
*  Meredith has some great titles, but finds it hard to name her creations.
*  She discusses the plot of her latest series: Dual Magics
*  Meredith herself has created the great artwork on her covers
*  Check out the photo of her cute furry companions
*  She enjoys reading one of the lesser-used writing styles
*  I think her super-power is quite splendid

You can check out the full interview here at the Fantasy Sci-Fi Network.

Here is Meredith's latest release: The Shaman's Curse
Vatar risked his life to try to save his friend--and failed. Now he has an implacable enemy in the vengeful shaman, who blames Vatar for the death of his only son. Vatar finds some comfort in daydreams. He knows the strange girl he sometimes imagines is just that--a dream. She’d better be.
Because, if she’s real things could get even worse for Vatar. The accepted magic of Vatar’s plains tribe wouldn’t enable him to see or communicate with a girl he doesn’t even know--or know where to find. That would be more like the magic passed down in certain, closely-guarded bloodlines among the ruling class of the coastal cities. And that’s bad. Very bad.
