A zombie author on the loose:  E.E. Isherwood @eeisherwood #FSFNet

Author E.E. Isherwood lives with his family in a bunker in St Louis, Missouri, where he avidly awaits the zombie apocalypse.  Not a bad introduction, I must say.
Luckily for me, I managed to unearth E.E. for an interview for the Fantasy Sci-Fi Network.  He has written two books about post-apocalyptic driving, five books about zombies, and several short stories from both genres
E.E. and I put our brains together (zombie pun intended) and came up with an entertaining interview for you all, which I posted on the Fantasy Sci-Fi Network.
Here are some of my favourite snippets:
*  E.E.'s inspiration for zombie writing was born on the unfortunate day of a funeral.
*  I love the idea of a 104-year old heroine
*  E.E.'s daily word count of writing would put even the most prolific of authors to shame.
*  Scouting scene locations for his books is a treasured family activity
*  I enjoy the way he writes the Missouri accent
To read more of E.E.'s exciting interview, click
here.

And look what we found in the paper this week:

Picture
E.E. Isherwood has a great zombie series to entertain us called Sirens of the Zombie Apocalypse.  Book 1 is Since the Sirens
As the tornado sirens drone for an hour, it heralds the end of civilization and the start of the Zombie Apocalypse. Those who can, run. Others, like 104-year-old Martinette Peters, figure they'll soon be dead. However, her 15-year-old great-grandson has other ideas. Together they head out into the chaos of the plague-infested city. They'll need a miracle to escape. But when society itself is collapsing, is one miracle going to be enough?

Get an eyeful of Murray Lindsay in this author interview #FSFNet

'Eyeful' Slade is the villain in 'Home on the Strange'
Fantasy author Murray Lindsay had me hooked at 'identical twin sisters from different mothers.'  Such an original and entertaining idea.  He proudly hails from the rolling prairie of Saskatchewan.  He is an illustrator and graphic artistic and now also a fantasy / steam punk author.
On a whim, Murray's steam-powered blimp passed by the Fantasy Sci-Fi Network for an author interview with me.

Here are some highlights:
*   His novel Home on the Strange may be the start of a series.  Woot!
*   Murray has a family history of speculative fiction writers
*   To avoid distractions whilst writing, Murray likes to listen to nature sounds
*   His selection of books to take through an interstellar portal are quite interesting
*   I like his fave quote
*  His wished-for superpower will make you laugh

Check out all these and more on the Fantasy Sci-Fi Network.

Murray Lindsay's debut novel is Home on the Strange.

Here's the synopsis:

Abigail Maye "Blackie" Brewster can't believe her luck—schlepping around in the summer heat as the assistant of a high-maintenance movie producer.  When did her life become a mix of flat and irritating?  What's a world-wandering nomad from Saskatchewan to do?

Home on the Strange is now available on sites such as iTunes, Barnes & Noble and Kobo.
Abagael Mae "Magpie” Brewster can't believe her luck—spending the summer sailing the skies in a prototype steam blimp, flying a circuit of the Western Domains, engaging in a little light espionage.  What more could a University of Saskatchewan Academician desire?
Blackie's life veers in a direction that threatens to snap her mind.  Magpie's light-hearted spying takes a hard and dangerous direction that threatens to snap her spirit.  When the paths of these identical twins born of different mothers intersect and tangle together, their lives become a race across a rolling prairie landscape both familiar and strange.
Home on the Strange is a rootin'-tootin' daredevil tale of far-fetched fiction in a west that does not share our history.

Julian Coleman pops in to frighten us #FSFNet @JulianMColeman1 #interview

Picture
Julian Coleman cites an upbringing of poverty and harsh conditions as defining factors in her writing career.  Unable to sleep due to nightmares, her mind turned to dark thoughts of demons, and thus an author was born.  Julian states that at first she was petrified of the demons, but now she is used to them and can even recognise their own dark beauty.
She invites us to journey into the demon realm for a scary ride with her.
I interviewed Julian for the Fantasy Sci-Fi Network.
Here are some of the highlights:
*   Julian's dogs sometimes enter to dreams to save her from the demons.  Good puppies.
*   She explains the meaning of her pen name
*   Her career comes as a surprise after hearing about her demons
*   Her favourite quote is perfect for her circumstance
*   She chooses an excellent superpower
Read all about these interesting facts and more in the full interview
here.

I have Stolen Prophet to share with you today.

Here's the synopsis:
I was riding the bus home one day when I saw a Missing Child billboard. I didn’t have any children at the time, but my heart ached for the parents of that lovely child. That’s when, especially as a writer, you ask yourself, What if? My what if evolved into a macabre tale that’s wrapped up in layers of madness and bloody revenge. I actually took a spectre from one of my nightmares and released it in my book. My foremost desire is for my readers to ache for the parent, despite the carnage she causes, and to root for her as she single-mindedly hunts for her son.

Kasper goes to Mount Doom #LordoftheRings #holiday

My blog about visiting Hobbiton was so popular that I thought I would continue with my Middle Earth adventure tales.
Chapter 2 is climbing Mount Doom in the footsteps of Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee.
Here on the left is Mt Ngauruhoe which is an active volcano.  I guess it was lucky for us that it wasn't spewing forth fire and brimstone when we chose to visit with the halflings.
In this national park area there are many famous alpine treks.  We went on the Tongariro Alpine trek.  Well, maybe we didn't get the whole 8 hour walk in with our young halflings, but we had a good time anyway.
There are three mountains in this area and the highest is Mt Ruapehu.  This mountain was used in many of the scenes for Mordor, Emyn Muil and the slopes of Mt Doom.  There are many awesome rock formations here.
When we visited of course, it was
Picture
covered in ice and snow and looked more like the High Pass of Caradhras where Saruman causes an avalanche to fall upon the fellowship.
Picture
Check out this wicked frozen lake we found on our alpine trek.
Our Beaumont clan lives in subtropical Australia,  therefore anything remotely cold is foreign to us, so we loved every minute of it.
Of course no ski trip would be complete without a bottle of Frogmorton ginger beer from the Southfarthing.  This is one we picked up at Hobbiton.  I reckon we'll be needing a few barrels of this shipped home to Oz.

Just a couple more happy snaps below of me falling over, oops, I mean skiing, and the view from our digs at National Park Village where a giant Kiwi is on the prowl.
By the way, make sure you check out the Schnapps Bar while you're there.
