Title:Finding Eliza.
Written by Stephanie Pitcher Fishman
A historical fiction

Blurb: "It’s just a little family history. What could go wrong?" When Lizzie Clydell agreed to join her grandmother at the church’s genealogy group meeting she expected nothing more than lemon squares and a few stories. Instead, an old diary leads Lizzie down a dusty road of lies, hidden family secrets, and a lynching that nearly destroyed her family.

Still struggling with the loss of her parents two decades earlier, Lizzie must confront a painful past that others hoped was forgotten. Her journey becomes even more difficult as she realizes those around her may not be as they seem.

Can Lizzie make peace with the past or will it destroy the relationships she holds most dear? Joining her is a group of lifelong friends known to Lizzie as The Gals.

Headed up by her own grandmother, the group of women guide her through the past with humor, encouragement, and tough love as she learns about grace and forgiveness. Set in small town Georgia, Finding Eliza is a contemporary story with flashes of historical fiction as Lizzie digs into 1930s segregation, illegal interracial relationships, and the fear of the KKK.

Remembrance Day.  Try this story of forgotten war heroes by R. Grey Hoover #Historical #War #Novel @rgreyhoover

On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, we will remember them.  November 11 is forever marked as Armistice Day, when the treaty was signed to end the World War in 1918.  Today we celebrate 100 years of remembering the great sacrifices of our ancestors.

I have chosen a military story as a way of honouring the fallen.   This story, Kicker, the Forgotten Front by R. Grey Hoover sheds light on our forgotten veterans of the China-Burma-India theater. Kicker (The Forgotten Front) is a tribute to those veterans and is available via Amazon for free on November 9, 10 and 11.

Synopsis:
World War II is raging. A young father must choose between his family and duty to his country- a decision that could cost him everything.
Based on actual experiences of United States veterans and official military aviation history records from World War II, this is the thrilling story of a family’s journey into war. While his loved ones struggle with shortages and rationing at home, Sam endures relentless Japanese attacks against his unarmed aircraft over the treacherous mountains and torrid jungles of Asia. His job is to drop supplies to Merrill’s Marauders and over 750,000 allied soldiers fighting in the perilous jungles of Burma. If the enemy is not stopped, the American way of life will end.
If you like non-stop action with a touch of humor and romance and the chance to learn about the “forgotten front” of WWII, then this is the book for you.

About the author:

R Grey Hoover is an Air Force veteran with a family tradition of military service that dates back to the American revolution. He wrote his book “Kicker the forgotten front” to honor his father and the other veterans of World War II who fought in the China-Burma-India (CBI) theatre. During the war, the European and Pacific theatres got most of the supplies and media attention leaving the CBI theatre with the leftovers. Even in today’s media coverage of World War II the CBI theatre is never mentioned. The author’s book is an attempt to correct this gross oversight.

The King's Spy: Synopsis
Summer, 1643

England is at war with itself. King Charles I has fled London, his negotiations with Parliament in tatters. The country is consumed by bloodshed.
For
Thomas Hill, a man of letters quietly running a bookshop in the rural town of Romsey, knowledge of the war is limited to the rumours that reach the local inn.
When a stranger knocks on his door one night and informs him that the king's cryptographer has died, everything changes. Aware of Thomas's background as a mathematician and his expertise in codes and ciphers, the king has summoned him to his court in Oxford.
On arrival, Thomas soon discovers that nothing at court is straightforward. There is evidence of a
traitor in their midst. Brutal murder follows brutal murder. And when a vital message encrypted with a notoriously unbreakable code is intercepted, he must decipher it to reveal the king's betrayer and prevent the violent death that failure will surely bring.
My review:

Well written and great tension

The author had me hooked from the beginning to end, with the mysterious plot and clever cryptology. It's exactly the type of book I love to get lost it. The historical imagery was well done and I really enjoyed the read. I'll have to check out other works by this...

This movie is worth a look: Gods of Egypt #GodsofEgypt #movie

After an enjoyable afternoon at the cinema, I was quite surprised to read that 'Gods of Egypt' is a lemon.  Well, let me contradict the trend by saying how much I enjoyed it.  There were several points working in its favour in my mind.  1. The mythology of the golden age of Egypt, when the Gods lived among mortals; 2. Some pretty cool special effects;  3. Darn good looking eye candy  and 4. Fond memories of the Stargate movie and TV series.
We go to the movies for entertainment and escapism and in my mind, Gods of Egypt met these criteria perfectly.

Have you ever read ancient Egyptian texts and wondered what their Gods would look like and how they would behave towards the commoners?  I have always had a fascination for this.  Whereas in Stargate, the powers that appeared magical were mostly due to technological superiority, here it is interpreted in a more traditional sense.
Picture
Gods of Egypt was directed by Alex Proyas and stars Gerard Butler as Set, Geoffrey Rush as Ra, Nickolaj Coster-Waldau (the ripped fighter from Game of Thrones) as Horus, Chadwick Boseman as Thoth, Brenton Thwaites as Bek, Elodie Yung as Hathor, Rufus Sewell as Urshu and Courtney Eaton as Zaya. - all in all a gorgeous cast with some pretty impressive CVs.
So, I recommend going in with an open mind and you might find that you really enjoy it like I did.
