Yay, the first drawing for chapter one has arrived! 'Dragon chained to the tower' by Kyla, age 118/26/2014
I'm loving the detail in this painting by Shy Guy, who is only 10 years old. Wow! The painting is entitled 'Night Castle' and the winged beast is very cute. I like the detail of all the bricks and flowers and also the translucent wings are fascinating. Thanks so much for entering and best wishes in the competition.
Only one week left to go in the Dragon's Revenge art competition. All pictures are welcome and pictures matching the chapter descriptions will be given priority at judging time. my camera refused to flash, so we're left with a mysteriously spooky image. Perhaps that is how it should be.
You can enter the art competition by sending in a picture of the Hunters of Reloria characters as described by Kasper in the art competition conditions. Certain scenes and characters have been described for each chapter in Dragon's Revenge, such as the Ancient Oracle. There are $550 in prizes to be won and entries close 31/8/14 The Going Pecans blog hop is to support Gina Henning's book release: Going Pecans. There is a Rafflecopter giveaway at the end of the post. The brief for this blog hop is to include an excerpt from one of my books about a time that one of the main characters was “Going Pecans” ie: going a bit nuts. I have chosen Asher from the Dragon's Revenge book. Here's my excerpt: Approaching stealthily, Asher's cat-like eyes were able to see quite clearly in the darkness. Many large forms were gathered with torches attached to long poles set in the ground at the edges of a clearing. In the centre, a circle of flat stones surrounded a stone altar, upon which was a blue light, a sight that made him cry out in amazement. The bluish glow surrounded three small levitating beings hovering above the stone slab, Asher had seen before: the Ancient Oracle. After first meeting them back in the Twisted Woods of the Relorian Southlands, it seemed totally implausible for the mystical beings to appear here on another planet. They looked directly at Asher hiding in the darkness and beckoned him with their short stubby fingers. The mountain man seemed to have little choice other than to go to the Oracle, but as he walked slowly forward, his keen hearing detected stealthy Junda giants, closing in around him. Drawing within speaking distance of the Ancient Oracle, he straightened his shoulders and took a deep breath to calm his apprehension. “Hail Asher Grey of Flame Mountain,” spoke the Oracle in the same tired old voices which he had heard before. The ears upon the tiny wizened creatures all twitched; they smiled, as though sharing a private joke. “We come to urge thee to hasten back to thine homeworld of Zumar. Thy land of Reloria be under attack and none but thee can lead the Hunters of Reloria to victory. Tarry not, or will all thou hold dear be lost. Seek thou the golden dragons.” Asher stared at the tiny floating creatures in disbelief for a few seconds. His eyes were hard and steely. “You mean to tell me you have somehow floated across the vast distance from Zumar to here just to tell me that everything I’ve done isn’t good enough and this is all my fault?” He was fairly spluttering with rage. “If you’re so clever then why did you send me here, while the giants destroyed my hometown and killed my kin? Why didn’t you do a damn thing to prevent it? All I hold dear has been lost and your ancient words cannot change that. Leave me alone with my grief and find someone else to save the world for you.” The Ancient Oracle drifted closer and whispered quietly to Asher. “It pains us to see the harshness of thy grief, yet here be Junda insurgents gathered to assault the Ar’gon Tower and free the wizards inside. Yet do they need thy leadership and the hunting prowess of yon miniature huntress. Therefore do we urge thee to act, for we be but creatures of spirit, not flesh. ‘Tis not within our power to touch mortal beings.” All three reached out toward Asher, though their hands did not sit on his skin, but passed straight through; leaving him shivering with a strange, cold sensation. His anger at the creatures died as quickly as it had risen and he stared at his arm, feeling empty and confused. “So you drew me here, to make an alliance with the Junda enemy?” he asked, looking up from the goose bumps on his arm into a darkened night. The fire torches cast small pools of yellow light in the edges of his vision and the blue light had disappeared. He looked around him in astonishment, “Where did the Oracle go?” A shaggy-haired Junda twice the height of Asher, stepped forward from the shadows and knelt on one knee before him, “They have left us and possibly were never here to begin with.
