I seriously couldn't fault it, the plot, action and effects were all top notch. Hiccup's flaming sword is pretty awesome and his dragon has a cool upgrade. The plot flies along nicely and adds some great depth to the first movie. I still can't figure out why Hiccup has an American accent, as opposed to the other thick accents, but it's easily overlooked. 5 stars from me, go and see it, cheers, Kasper.
Movie review: How to Train Your Dragon 2 is a great adventure for the whole family #fantasy #dragons6/9/2014
You've gotta love a sequel that outshines the first installment. The world of Vikings and dragons collides again when a group of baddies want to enslave young Hiccup's dragons. The story is based on the book by Cressida Cowell and is a rollicking adventure for the whole family. There's slapstick for the young ones ( a lot of 'slap-lick' really), plenty of action for the older kiddies, a nice dash of romance for the lovers, and heaps of crazy dragon flight for us die-hard fantasy fans.

This is an exciting read by debut novelist Katie Thornton-K. You can read my review here: Bloodline review. I did an interview with the author back in January and you can read it here: Interview with Katie Thornton-K. "This book truly brought the fantasy to life for me and I was completely engulfed. I have to start by saying that fantasy novels are not my first choice of reads. I love fantasy movies so I thought why not give a novel a try. I'm glad I did. The story truly pulled me in and I can't wait to read the complete series. This book truly brought the fantasy to life for me and I was completely engulfed. As a fellow author, I truly appreciate the fact that story was well written and formatted properly. Excellent job! Truly a 5 star read." The Elven Jewel is a great fantasy novel I had the pleasure of reading. Nicely written with a solid pace. I fell into the world of Reloria and it's people. What I really liked about it, was all the different species coming together for one cause...to protect their world from the Vergai. Though much of the story was centered around the halflings, Randir and Fendi and their fairies. I enjoyed meeting all the rest of the cast. The epic battle near the end is one I want to read again. As a big fan of The Lord of the Rings, this novel was right up my alley and thoroughly recommend for anyone to read and continue on to the next installment.' Review posted on Goodreads.com Artwork: 'Warrior' by Isaac, age 13 Similarly to master mythmaker, the legendary JRR Tolkien this truly remarkable debut novel is a masterwork of refreshing originality and breathtaking scope. What the deftly woven narrative lacks in profundity and intricate details (as to the world-building), more than makes up in imaginative concepts and inventive ideas. The use of metaphorical nuance as an undertone to Kasper Beaumont's fantasy world is brilliant, as it enhances the believability and realistic `feel' to his creation. I was swept away into a mystical realm of Halflings and curious creatures; from Elves to Dwarves, Sorcerers and dark enemies (as found in "The Hobbit"). I felt sure that the author draws his inspiration and concepts from children's classic fantasy tales such as The Hobbit and Narnia, yet with a distinctly contemporary twist and idiosyncratic style. Elven Jewel is the first instalment within `The Hunters of Reloria' trilogy and an exciting new edition to the genre, targeted towards the younger reader (middle-grade/ YA) and yet is something that can equally be enjoyed by adult alike. This fantastical creation containing myth, magic and fairies is an adventure story of a lifetime, which takes you on a dark perilous quest into the unknown that you'll never forget! *The purity and simplicity of this story is what makes it stand out within such a crowded, hugely popular (and competitive) genre in which many self-published works can get overlooked. As far-removed as one could possibly imagine from say for instance those darker, grittier fantasy novels like George RR Martin's epic sequence `A Song of Ice & Fire' (which is something many fantasy readers of the 21st Century seem to expect these days). The light prose is slanted on the naïve side, so as to appeal to the younger reader and so expectations are met if you seek a sensational `children's' fantasy that's wide reaching and extensive. This captivating and hugely entertaining, riveting read was a pleasant delight and one that I would highly recommend. I would like to thank the author for providing me with an e-copy of his debut novel to read & review. Five star review. A supremely magical fantasy story of extraordinary depth and inspired vision, April 30, 2014 By Lucinda Posted on Amazon Great 'Fire and Ice Dragon' by Ashleigh, age 11 Review by: Melyssa Winchester I should start off by saying Elven Jewel is the first book of Hunters of Reloria trilogy. It is not a standalone which I honestly didn't pay attention to when I started reading it. So now, I have to pick up the other books because WOW. It can't just end there for me. Here are my thoughts on this story. I haven't ready a fantasy book in ten years. Sad but true. I've read paranormal fantasy I suppose, but there was always more of a romantic undertone to it. Actual fantasy, where there is more focus put on the various creatures, battles and other events...it's been far too long. I am beyond glad that this was the book that got me back into it. I've always been impressed by Fantasy writers because there is so much detail needed in making these worlds come to life, as well as characters. My hat is off to Kasper as this was done brilliantly. The characters were strong, the locations described in such a powerful way it was as if at times I was right there in the heat of battle with them. Certain characters stood out more than others and Asher! Ah! I did not see that coming. Wow. I laughed as I read along, I cried (oh did I cry at one certain point) but most of all I was completely swept up in the story and each of the characters put forth within it. This is a brilliant read, for any fan of fantasy it is a must read, but it's really for all readers in general based on how well it is written. I enjoyed it immensely and I can't wait to get started on the next one! Thank you Kasper Beaumont for bringing me back into the world of Fantasy! Reloria is under siege by the Vergai. Randir. and Fendi and their bond fairies are on a mission to bring back the jewel and save Reloria. They have help from men. dwarves and a elf. They brave so many different trials as they fight to bring back the jewel to get the force field working again. To throw a big twist into their plans the princess has been kidnapped by an alien Cyclops with a very mean ass lizard thing that does their bidding. So what is a poor hafling to do so with the help of new characters that we meet in the book . We go on an epic adventure to save the princess and get the jewel and save the world You know how sometimes the second book in a series is kind a weak. this book isn’t. It is full of adventure and intrigue. You see how they work together to help each other out. There is also a little bit of romance coming along for the ride. The new characters were a great add on . They worked well together. Kasper can sure weave a tale of fantasy that can suck you in from the first page. I was up reading well into the night. I had to know what was going to happen next. I had to see if the jewel would be recovered and if they were going to get the princess back. But alas Kasper left me wanting more with a cliff hanger at the end of this book. I honestly went noooooooo way he can’t do this to me . I got really caught up in the lives of as I call them, my little halflings. I honestly felt like they were mine. LOL . Yes I am such a fantasy geek. I am admitting it to everyone right now. I am thinking that kids as young as 12 and people as old as 80 will enjoy the second book in the elven jewel series. Trust me you will get swept up in the fantasy and read all night long . So if you enjoy fantasy books check out Kasper Beaumont’s ELVEN JEWEL SERIES . I don’t think you will be disappointed at all 5 out of 5 stars http://lsksweetheartreviews.wordpress.com/2014/04/22/hunters-quest-hunters-of-reloria-series-by-kasper-beaumont-reviewed-by-patricia/#comment-124 Artwork by Jaki Martinez A supremely magical fantasy of remarkable scope and originality!, April 13, 2014 By Lucinda - See all my reviews This review is from: Hunters' Quest (Hunters of Reloria series) (Kindle Edition) "The Hunters of Reloria" is an exciting new series of extraordinary imaginative vision and breathtaking world building, in which you are transported to the hart of a magical place. From Elves and Fairies that bewitch, to fire-breathing Dragons and disgruntled Dwarves, Halflings {like Tolkien's Hobbit's} and Centaurs; this epic fantasy creation contains a diverse mixture of otherworldly creatures. Not since JRR Tolkien or William Horwood's `Hyddenworld' have I been so utterly mesmerized and spellbound by such a story! As an addicted reader of the fantasy genre and in particular a fan of high/ epic classic traditional fantasy stories I was captivated by this *new* work. Kasper Beaumont's astonishing, inspired concepts and intriguing ideas left me in awe as I swam in a sea of tranquillity and soared cloud high. Every child's dreams of magical lands, Wizards and Dragons come to life on the page...as you are pulled into this sweeping adventure that takes you on an unforgettable roller coaster ride. Reloria is a well-crafted, enchanting world of wondrous delights that's brilliantly realized in colourful splendour. I could quite happily lose myself within K Beaumont's impressive literary masterpiece, for I felt the assured writing was as intricately woven and accomplished as many notable works within this genre. It contained everything I love in fantasy worlds and those highly recognizable elements, such as: · Portals between worlds - resembling Alice's looking glass, the subtle knife, Tom Riddle's diary etc... · A diverse variety of creatures - including Elves, Dwarves, Halflings, Dragons, Mages, Fairies, gnomes etc... that are also common in classic fantasy works for instance Lord of the Rings or Narnia. · Richly detailed, vast world-building of profoundly substantial depth · The archetypal epic `quest' (or journey) across the land, to rescue a Princess and recover a stolen elvish jewel. I was so impressed by this hugely ambitious, daring work within an exceptionally popular and somewhat overcrowded genre {in terms of books that are self-published, as there is such a big choice}. I was kept glued to the pages, lost within the thrilling drama and compelling saga containing a cast of interesting characters. Shocking twists in the plot and unexpected events left me wanting more... I would like to thank the author for providing me with an e-copy of Hunter's Quest to read {& review}, as it was a riveting read and one that took me totally by surprise. This stunning sequel is a grand, mythical adventure that beautifully blends ancient myths & legends within a refreshing contemporary `feel' for a spectacular story. I now cannot wait for the conclusion to this terrific trilogy! Published on Amazon.com New review of Hunters' Quest: 'We would both recommend this to the fans of sci-fi and fantasy.'4/16/2014
Reviewed by Jen S and her child. 'The second book by Kasper turns out to be a better work compared to the first book. The writing was much better and consistent with a smoother plot line that moves along nicely. There isn’t much left to the imagination, which some readers prefer, and there’s plenty going on to keep the reader turning pages. My middle child spent the better part of a day reading this one with a few words of praise afterwards. We would both recommend this to the fans of sci-fi and fantasy. I received an evaluation copy from the author in exchange for an honest unbiased and unpaid review. I have not received any sort of compensation beyond the one free evaluation copy of this book. One of the things I have loved about fantasy since I got hooked as a very young reader was the ability to travel to worlds where nothing was impossible but dragons, fairies, elves and gnomes all existed and so vividly that you became part of that world. Well in Elven Jewel I was once again transported to a new world, it was like finding this genre all over again and in a beautifully written book that will make you forget your surroundings but become part of the Hunters of Reloria as they set out on their quest. It starts a little slow but this is forgiven because the stage is being set for a much wider show and there has to be sone groundwork first. Most of the action is seen through the eyes of the young halflings, peace loving inhabitants who are suddenly thrust into the center of an invasion and war that will be life or death for their land. Fendi and his bond-fairy quickly became my favourite, quieter than his friend Randir he learnt and grew as the story progressed, another favourite was Asher who was exiled from his own people but a man of honour, and Sienna a young female halfling who was an experienced huntress. This story will take your imagination for a holiday to the land of Reloria so sit back and enjoy the trip, this is the first in the series and I can't wait to read the rest. I received a free copy for an honest review www.amazon.com |
